Tessie and Luc Lalonde plan to retire from their careers in the National Capital Region, in a few years.
Thinking ahead, this travel-loving couple purchased a condominium suite at Stone & South on the River, CaraCo Development Corporation’s community of exclusive dockside residences on the St. Lawrence River. Their home-buying journey led them to this waterside location in Gananoque.
Said Luc, “We love the water, and really wanted our retirement home to be easy to maintain.”
Tessie currently operates a cleaning business and hair salon from their home; Luc is a heavy equipment technician for the City of Ottawa, where he has worked for nearly 18 years.
The Lalondes spent some time exploring Gananoque before they decided on purchasing. “We took a few boat cruises and a nice drive along Hwy 2 through the area to see where the best view was, and we thought the community was very nice,” Luc said. “As we age, practically speaking, Stone & South will be a great place to relax and enjoy life and looking ahead, we’ll also be close to health care centres and hospitals in the Kingston and Brockville areas.”
“We also sampled a few restaurants in town, and they are lovely,” Tessie added.
“If one chose to buy on the St. Lawrence waterfront farther down the road, views are to U.S. industrial areas. But, at Stone & South, we will see the Thousand Islands.”
Tessie and Luc selected the 1,267 square-foot, two-bedroom Camelot Island design. This plan features 251 additional square feet of wraparound balcony which offers southwest views of the islands and a nice view of the nearby Ganaoque Inn. They also appreciate the high-end standard features Caraco provides.
The Ottawa couple’s home-buying journey first led them to Niagara Falls, where they purchased a low-rise home. “We soon realized how tied down we were with a house,” Luc says. “When you travel, you have to have someone check on the property every 48 hours. We decided to sell it and purchase this Gananoque condo instead. Because we are fortunate to be able to travel a lot, it will be much easier just to lock the door and leave.”
The Lalondes look forward to utilizing the fitness centre and social room amenities at Stone & South, especially when their children and grandchildren come to visit. They also plan to buy a boat once they move in. Living adjacent to the Thousand Islands Playhouse also intrigues them. “We’re not big theatre-goers now, because we’re so busy,” Luc says. “Once we live next door, we’ll likely get into it and enjoy some performances at the Playhouse.”
Both are excited about their purchase. As Tessie says, “It will be wonderful to go south during the winters and leave for a warmer climate with true peace-of-mind.”
