Discover Gananoque

Simply called “Gan” by many of its 5,000 locals, Gananoque is known as the Gateway to the Thousand Islands. First Nations history has it that the town’s name means “town of two rivers,” “water rising over rocks” or “garden of the great spirit.” And it is all of these things, and more.

Naturally beautiful and tastefully developed, Gananoque is as lively as it is peaceful. With its rich history, 350 business and activities and attractions to suit everyone from food lovers, cyclists and theatre buffs to golfers, artists and antique collectors, there is always something to do — or simply to reflect on — in Gan.

And then there is the water.

This stunning section of the St. Lawrence river calls to boaters, anglers and fans of adrenaline watersports alike. There is no shortage of ways to explore the cobalt-blue waterways, which are home to two UNESCO-designated sites, 1,864 islands, diving sites and some of the finest freshwater fishing in the world.

Just imagine calling this place home.
