Boating in the Thousand Islands

Yachts and sailboats lined up in the Gananoque Municipal Marina.
At Stone & South, we love boating! And we know that everyone who owns a slip in our private marina loves boating as well. Every summer, when the sun is shining and there’s a cool breeze coming off the water, we hop in our boats and set sail.

It doesn’t matter if you’re in a powerboat or a kayak — the Thousand Islands is one of the most beautiful places to explore, and the exploring is best when you’re on the water. Other than literally having over a thousand different islands to see and explore, there are also thousands of things to do and places to go. Most cottage waterfronts only have access to a little inland lake, but the St. Lawrence River is both a huge river on its own and connected to Lake Ontario and the ocean. A road trip on the waterway is one great way to spend a vacation.

If you’re looking to stay closer to home, though, there are lots of activities nearby. There are plenty of beaches, and perfect, crystal clear shallow waters for those who are looking to swim, and there are also lots of places to go and cast a fishing line. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can take your boat up to Skywood Eco Adventures and spend the afternoon climbing through the treetops. For the history buffs, there are historic sites like the beautiful Boldt Castle.
Or maybe you just want to grab a paddle, a rope, or a steering wheel and enjoy the water! Sometimes, the best part about boating is simply enjoying the trip. If you don’t have a boat of your own, you can still enjoy the river either from shore or from the deck of a cruise ship, or you can rent a kayak and set sail for a day of fun.
